Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State Combine for 87-Yard Loss on 2nd and Goal

Sometimes in football, plays happen that just defy all sense of logic. This 2nd and goal effort from Louisiana Tech is a great example of that. The Bulldogs took on Mississippi State (also aptly named the Bulldogs) over the weekend and found themselves on the wrong end of an eventual 57-21 loss.

No one will remember any of that, though. The only thing people will take away from this game is this play. Louisiana Tech somehow turned 2nd and goal from the 7-yard line into 3rd and goal from their own 6-yard line. A shocking loss of 87 yards. EIGHTY-SEVEN.

Just let that sink in. How many things had to go wrong for that to happen? The most impressive thing in all of this is that Mississippi State had about four opportunities to score – Louisiana Tech was actually fortunate to come away with an 87-yard loss.

ESPN Stats & Info shared that the previous longest amount of yards to get a first down since 2004 was 57 yards when Georgia faced an epic third down against Tennessee. That record is no more. Amazing.

Still Cannot Stop Watching Miami's Crazy Eight Lateral Play To Win The Game

THIS WILL ALWAYS MAKE ME HAPPY. If you missed Miami's incredible game-winning, eight lateral play against Duke last night because you were "out celebrating" the holiday of "Halloween," well, I am so sorry for you. But at least you can watch this now. It's still amazing, even a day later.

There's a detailed writeup on SB Nation about this finish, and my goodness do I enjoy the tears of Duke supporters complaining about officials "handing the game" to Miami. Apparently they've briefly forgotten which school they go to (a.k.a. the one who is usually getting help from the officials). Some folks are saying Mark Walton's knee was down before one of the laterals, but the only picture I've seen shows the ball balancing on his hand like a server with a trayful of drinks. That hardly looks like solid possession to me; if the ball is even barely coming out, it's a fumble, and he's therefore not down.

Whatever you think of this, it was an awesome play that won't be forgotten anytime soon. AND I LOVE IT.

Because It Never Stops Being Awesome: Jameis Winston's Fumble Against Oregon

There's just so much to love about this. Florida State, whose players have a longer rap sheet than most actual jails, had been skating by opponents this season, largely thanks to said opponents building up a big lead and then taking their foot off the gas, allowing the Seminoles back into the game.

Thankfully, we have the Oregon Ducks here to restore some order to the college football world. They played a close Orange Bowl first half with Florida State before demolishing them in the final 30 minutes en route to a 59-20 victory, and a spot in the national championship game. The best play of all came on fourth down in the third quarter, when Jameis Winston did his best impression of the Butt Fumble: the backwards throw. Just amazing.

It's Gettin' Chili Down South!

Football season is upon us, and of course, that means plenty of weekends filled with tailgating and gorging on delicious food. One of the highlights of any tailgate? Well, if said tailgaters know what's up, it's chili. And thanks to Mrs. Dash, you can keep your chili a little healthier. That gives you more energy to yell at the game.

Speaking of games, if you're headed to the Texas/Ole Miss game, stop by the Mrs. Dash tent to receive giveaways and sample some chili. Even if you're not going to the game, submit your best recipe to KVET.com between now and September 15 for a chance to win. Enjoy the weekend!

College Football is Back

Goodness, am I glad to not be living in Big 10 country anymore. Oh, I'm sorry, B1G country. Gone are the days of 6-3 final scores, and...well, I have to watch a lot of Texas games now, but hey, as long as I get my Hurricanes fix I'll take it. The game of the weekend was No. 8 Clemson knocking off the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs. And if you missed that highlight? Well, I've got you covered. So does ESPN, though they also have more cameras than me. Support the little guy!

Brutus the Buckeye Gets Absolutely Rocked

College football spring games were happ'nin' over the weekend, and Brutus Buckeye is probably still feeling the effects. The Ohio State mascot took a snap from the shotgun, and tried to pick up some yards by scrambling downfield. Linebacker David Perkins would have none of it, though, as he completely levels the young buck(eye). Brutus is a champ, though, and hops right back up, albeit after fumbling. Good stuff.

This Wins the Award for Best Stiff-Arm Ever

One of the more overlooked matchups on Saturday was the battle between the Auburn Tigers and the New Mexico State...uh...Aggies? The reason the game was overlooked was because each of these teams only had one win coming into the weekend. Auburn won 42-7, and the best play was a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Watch as the Tigers' Daren Bates had possibly the best stiff arm I've ever seen. Keep in mind that this was a DEFENSIVE player, who rarely has a reason to even use the stiff arm technique. Simply incredible.
