After Jake Arrieta threw a no hitter for the Cubs Sunday night, Chicago manager Joe Maddon rewarded his players with a pajama night. They were flying a red eye, after all. So, while they were more colorful than usual, they were still wearing typical flight fare. I feel like I'm crashing a slumber party every time I fly. Good work all around, though, Cubbies. Keep up the winning.
Usain Bolt is incredibly fast. There's no doubting that. But what you may not have known is that he is also quite adept at recovering from being rammed by a segway.
At the World Athletics Championships in Beijing, Bolt beat American Justin Gatlin in both the 200-meters and the 100-meters. In the 200, Bolt's time was 19.55, well ahead of the rest of the field. Gatlin finished second at 19.74.
After Bolt's win, he was walking along the track, holding his shoes and minding his own business. All of a sudden, a cameraman riding a segway runs into him. For his part, Bolt does a nice little backwards roll and gets up to his feet, though he walked away a bit gingerly. And before we go blaming the cameraman, as someone who has had to operate cameras like that (albeit not on a segway), those are heavy pieces of machinery. Just walking and using them is hard enough. Now we're asking a man to ride a segway with no actual handles to hold onto?! That's a disaster waiting to happen. And I guess it did happen. The Italian version (below) is the best coverage of it, mostly because of the announcer's cry of despair.

Macklemore always has delightful music videos, and this one is no exception. As the top comment (currently) suggests, "Uptown Funk and Thrift Shop had a baby...and you just watched it."
This is 100% accurate. It's a fun, quirky song in the vein we've come to expect from the Seattle duo. They're also joined by Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Caz, and Eric Nally. And I fully expect to hear it all over the radio in the next year. Can't...wait...

Walk-on Trevor Sweeney, who's spent most of his time as a practice squad and special teams player, fielded what he thought was a fairly typical onside kick during a practice recently. Little did he know that attached to the football was a scholarship offering a full ride to the university. Pretty amazing stuff. Let's see Sweeney kick some butt this year.
Bad Lip Reading is always a quality performance. Of course, for my money, nothing beats the fantastic NFL videos, but with the nonsense spewed out at the first Republican Debate, this one might be more accurate.

Fun fact: a four-year old doesn't enjoy being asked if he'll miss being away from his mother. That seems like common sense, but Courtney Friel learned that the hard way. The KTLA reporter was interviewing young Andrew Macias for a piece on the first day of school. Her second question: Are you gonna miss your mom?
The brave Andrew tried to put on his strongest face, but almost immediately broke into tears. Frier's response of "oh no, don't cry" doesn't help. Fortunately, mom was nearby to give Andrew a big hug, and then he marched into the classroom for his first day of school. What a trooper.
It's been quite awhile since Andre 3000 and Big Boi, better known collectively as OutKast, have released a record. And if the latest sketch from Key & Peele is any indication, a new one isn't coming out anytime soon. It appears that Big Boi is sick of Andre 3000's shtick and "Peter Pan" personality. That isn't good for anyone. Except us, the viewers. Enjoy.
The AFL's Arizona Rattlers had a game the other night, but that's really not the important part of the story here. Instead, it's the halftime show: the Sidewinders dance squad start off with an entirely all-female number, before the party is crashed by Oscar Hernandez. Hernandez appears to be an offensive lineman, or at least a similar size. Yet he's got the moves like Jagger, Michael, or whichever great dancer you'd like to fill in. Probably because he actually is a professional choreographer. Very impressive all around.
And in case you're scoring at home, yes, the Rattlers won their game, 72-41 over the Spokane Shock. The Rattlers will look to defend their title against the San Jose SaberCats on Saturday, August 22.
Remember those "10 hours of walking in New York as a _____" videos from last year? It started off as a message showing all the harassment a woman experiences on a daily basis. Definitely an important topic, but of course, a ton of parodies were inspired. And now, with Donald Trump becoming a walking parody of himself, the gimmick can come back to life. Funny Or Die has taken advantage of it, with a video entitled "10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Donald Trump." Good stuff.
The latest episode of Locally Sourced Joey features Larry J. Dunlap, author of the thoroughly entertaining Night People - Things We Lost In The Night. It's a memoir of his time as a musician, complete with travels throughout the country, love, relationships, and everything else that makes life pretty awesome.

Even with 162 games during the regular season, Major League Baseball players have a ton of spare time on their hands. This is especially evident in San Francisco, where the Giants spent an off day recreating the opening credits from Full House. The parody, aptly named "Full Clubhouse," is a pretty solid shot-by-shot homage to the original. It even features a cameo from a famous Full House cast member. Which one? You'll just have to wait and see. Or, you can probably guess from the video's thumbnail. Enjoy.
Keith Wilson is a man with big aspirations. Specifically, he wants to be a dancer for the Miami Heat. Wilson, who tried out in 2012, once again made an appearance at a Heat dancer open tryout earlier this month. Alas, the Heat chose not to bring him on the squad, which might make sense if his performance wasn't the greatest and most memorable thing of the day. Check it out:
It seems like no one else is even listening to the beat. Wilson just crushes it. He believes his gender was a factor in his not making the team. On the Heat's end, it's pretty stupid if that's the case. Not only is Wilson talented enough, it would be an absurd amount of free publicity for a city that's stumping for attention ever since LeBron left town. Oh well. Maybe next year.
Sticking with our tribute to the late actor, here's a nice little tune from Cee Lo Green. It's certainly less vulgar than his massive radio hit from a few years back, but the soul is still abundant. Nice little homage to Robin Williams.

If you're sick of the Kardashians, you're certainly not alone. Orlando news anchor John Brown feels your pain. During Friday's show, Brown, sensing that another stupid story about the family was unfolding before his eyes, decided he wasn't going to ruin his weekend and simply left the set.
Brown leaves while a correspondent is talking. Another anchor comes in and the correspondent believe she's still talking to Brown. It is wonderful, and his rage and complaints that this is a "non-story" are eerily accurate. Thanks for taking a stand, John Brown. Maybe if enough people are like you we won't have to listen to stories like this anymore.
Starbucks is well known for overpriced coffee, but just as notably, they often spell people's names wrong on their cups. It's understandable; after all, it's typically loud and crowded, and sometimes folks just have strange names.
BuzzFeed takes it to the next level with this parody - a mock interview for a potential Starbucks employee. The final thing: the spelling test. Let's see how our boy does.
As I Am Chris Farley is set to debut on Spike TV in a few days, this gem has risen from the ashes of the DreamWorks cutting room floor. It's Chris Farley voicing everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek. Farley's family estimates the actor had 80 to 90 percent of the dialogue done before his death at age 33 in 1997. Though some of the film was re-written once Mike Myers was brought onboard, it's an interesting look at what could have been.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Richie Shaffer got his first career hit Tuesday night against the White Sox. It just so happened to be a home run. Way to go, rook.
Of course, as per rookie hazing rules, the rest of the team completely ignores him when he returns to the dugout. Fortunately, Shaffer has some quick wit about him. He gives some faux high fives, points to a guy and says yeah, hugs an imaginary teammate, and generally just earns some good will among fans. Hopefully this is the first of many home runs in a long career.
Key and Peele have always been known for their wonderful satire. From the glorious East West Bowl games to the Obama Angry Translator, their sketches are usually quite on point.
"TeachingCenter" is no exception. In this perfect knock off of ESPN's "SportsCenter," the duo get behind the desk as anchors of a show that spotlights teachers and the great work they do. Whether it's getting an introvert to participate in class, or switching school districts and locking up that million dollar salary, this is just fantastic. Well done, fellas.
Jake H works at an office that has a six foot toy basketball hoop. Or, I should say "worked," as poor Jake was laid off. Somehow, he found himself completely alone in the office. So what else is one to do but do a bunch of slow motion dunks on the hoop, set to the tune of "Space Jam?" The answer is nothing. Nothing else. Sit back and welcome to the slam.
Music is a pretty wonderful thing. It's amazing how it can bring people from all walks of life together, and perhaps there's no better of example of that than in this video. One thousand people spent about a year practicing the Foo Fighters' "Learn to Fly" to convince Dave Grohl and his band to come play in Cesena, Italy. If you don't get goosebumps watching this...well, I just don't know what to tell you.
For his part, Grohl loved the video, and even created a video response in Italian, saying (roughly): "Hi, Cesena! I am David, hello. I’m sorry, I don’t speak Italian. Only a little, a little. That video — but how beautiful! Very beautiful. Thank you very much [literally: a thousand thanks]. We are arriving [coming], I promise. We’ll see each other soon. Thank you very much. I love you. Bye."
Just amazing. Side note: I re-watched the original "Learn to Fly" music video this morning, and it is simply incredible, even though Grohl's long locks and facial hair are quite absent.
